These images were taken in Bucksport and Bangor, Maine, during the January ice storm. A chickadee shows why it's Maine's state bird in #2. What looks like snow around the park bench in #25 is actually several inches of accumulated ice. Although we only lost power for about 36 hours, many of our neighbors went without electricity for over two weeks. You can see a steaming branch with a live wire against it in #35. It smoldered like that for days. Yet, in the middle of all the worry and frustration, there was a great deal of wonder and beauty. I hope some has been captured here for you to share, especially if you live far away.
Note: The numbers are not random--These are some of a group of 63 Ice Storm '98 photos. More will be added later. The pictures are displayed in 256 colors, although they are available electronically in million of colors. Some dithering may have occurred in the conversion.
